Kutira, your beautiful land and retreat dwellings are truly a massage to the soul. My husband Jack and I are so grateful that we had an opportunity to meet you and relax in a vortex of sweet and restorative energy. We look forward to returning for another visit soon! With gratitude, Kerrie & Jack.
“When I arrived in Maui I was welcomed into a large bamboo house which had a porch overlooking the ocean. I was quite ill, and I fully recuperated because of the healing energy of that house.”
“A sustainable environment, where we can be in harmony with nature.”
“Staying with Kutira and Raphael at the Maui Eco Retreat is better than a big hotel, they hold spirit and the land is alive with what makes me sing and dance”
“Staying at the Bamboo Temple at the Kahua Institute is among the most glorious retreats that can be experienced. The entire mandala house [Bamboo Temple], with its complete amenities, is built around a magical octagonal bed in front of which is a window, as wide as the horizon. The panorama includes shoreline, ocean and sky framed like dramatic curtains by palm trees on one side, and tall papyrus reeds on the other. Tastefully paradisiacal. Balinese statues of lovers peak in at the window as the guests take a cue from the mating whales whose tails flip up in the panorama. Creativity fairly seethes in this ideal tropical environment. At the Kahua Institute, all of the residences are superb. No wonder you feel so vividly alive here. There are no interfering power lines. The founders, Kutira and Raphael have been off the grid with their eco-sustainable technologies for years. World famous teachers in the sacred art of Tantra, Kutira and Raphael are also acclaimed musicians with numerous albums of original music that is etherial, energetic, and uplifting. We recommend gifting yourself and a loved one with two weeks or more at the Kahua Institute taking advantage of all that they offer and have one of the most memorable experiences of a lifetime.”

“Dear Kutira and Raphael,
MAGIC!!! Honestly we couldn’t have asked for a better place to spend our honeymoon. Not only did we connect stronger with each other but also with nature. This temple allowed us to constantly be reminded of how beautiful nature is, but also feel so free and calm inside ourselves. Both Bryan and I have such crazy lives and try very hard to be eco sufficient in a city setting. Coming here made us feel exactly what we’ve been wanting to feel. Just walking the property taught us things and hiking down to the waterfall and beach was better than any tourist hike we paid for. It’s a very special gem here and I hope everyone who stays here in the bamboo temple feels the freedom and happiness we did this week. Kutira: class with you and our talks is something that we will take with us forever. You are very talented and such a beautiful soul. Thank you for sharing your amazing journey.”
We spent three lovely days at the retreat over the New Years holiday. It was a welcome respite from our very busy lives. We stayed in the Lotus Room in the Opua House, a spacious comfortable room with its own bathroom and very affordable. At night we left the doors open so we could listen to the frogs on the pond and the ocean waves beyond, and nothing more! It was so incredibly restful. All of the staff were super friendly and interesting. It was also quite fun to meet and spend time with other guests at the Opua House, where sharing a kitchen and dining room gave us lots of opportunities to socialize. It’s also big enough to be adventurous! My husband and I hiked all over the property, enjoying a long outing climbing down the path to the rocks overlooking the gorgeous cove, swimming in the secluded pond above the waterfall, and admiring the wonderful bamboo structures built all over the property. Plenty of privacy to be found! We also really enjoyed getting to know Kutira and learning more about the amazing and diverse projects that she and Raphael have undertaken. My husband and I certainly look forward to returning and staying in touch.

“Maui, in essence, is an island of enchanting beauty –and the eco-tourism retreat center instantaneously taking your breath away, with a backdrop that could be considered an artist’s paradise. Each shared experience can be dubbed with fascinating names as it is a place nourished by an authentic culture of conscious awareness. It’s identity is simply a blend of lush natural beauty, an abundance of blessings felt immediately, loving energy, and pure magic. I am humbly grateful for this surreal experience. It is the best I have ever encountered in my life journey as a world traveler.”
“This place will be in our hearts and souls – a place to return to with our feelings and thoughts – always there. One day I hope we will return in person again. Thank you for sharing this very special place, it has been a blessing to stay here.”
“To me this is real Maui, tucked away in the deepness and ancientness of nature. Living in bamboo I felt my nature alter. This was a unique experience, even though we just briefly touched the surface of your lovely life style. Thank you for your vision of a better way of living. Much love for now and the future.”
